Age of Mythology: Retold has been nominated for the best Sim/Strategy Game of the Year, and the The Game Awards 2024, one of the most (if not the most) prestigious awards in the gaming industry.
The game, which was released earlier this year, and earned an overwhelming positive reception from both critics and old-school RTS fans, will compete in the category with several other titles released this year, such as:
- Frostpunk 2 (11 Bit Studios)
- Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess (Capcom)
- Manor Lords (Slavic Magic/Hooded Horse)
- Unicorn Overlord (Vanillaware/Sega/Atlus)
The ceremony will take place on December 12, and fortunately, the Game Awards allows gamers to vote for their favorite game to win, so if you’ve been enjoying Age of Mythology: Retold, maybe consider voting for it here. You’ll need to sign up to vote, of course.
The release of Age of Mythology: Retold has been a surprise, as the game was overwhelmingly received positively. Many critics and gamers agree that it brings back the classic RTS gameplay. Compared to the original, which can still be purchased and enjoyed, Retold keeps the classic’s gameplay, but improves in key points, such as making God Powers reusable, which greatly enhances the game.
Plus, World’s Edge/Forgotten Empires/Xbox Game Studios have been making sure to add quality-of-life features and mods to the game: the first mod is the free Arena of Gods, released recently, which is a fun experience that allows the player to use Blessings and World Twists to make the matches more fun.
The studios are also preparing two expansion packs for Age of Mythology: Retold, which will focus on entirely new civilizations and mythologies. The first one, the Chinese-based Immortal Pillars, has already been announced and will be released in the following months. Those who have purchased the game’s Premium Edition will have access to both.
Age of Mythology: Retold has not only been a success for Xbox and Microsoft, but it’s also a win for the RTS genre, which has dwindled in popularity in recent years, and it would be great to be recognized at the Game Awards 2024.
So make sure you vote for it!
