The hotly-anticipated first expansion pack for Age of Mythology: Retold, Immortal Pillars, has a release date.
The studios behind the game, World’s Edge and Xbox Game Studios, have been teasing it for a few weeks after its official release in October. The expansion, based on Chinese mythology, will be free of charge to those who have purchased the Premium Edition of the game.
Immortal Pillars replaces the original Tale of the Dragon and follows Jiao-Long’s quest to restore the balance between the Yin and Yang following the awakening of the Titans in the original game.
It is still unknown how exactly Immortal Pillars will follow the Tale of the Dragon campaign. The original story is generally considered weak and quite unbalanced by the Age of Mythology community, so it will be interesting to see how the studios remake this expansion.
Age of Mythology: Retold – Immortal Pillars Release Date
In a post on X, announcing the new event for Age of Mythology: Retold, the Holidaze Event, the teams behind the games officially said Immortal Pillars is coming in 2025.
Our villagers are pouring their hearts and souls into the #ImmortalPillars expansion in preparation for its release in 2025!
We don’t know when exactly in 2025, but we assume it might be early 2025. So expect Immortal Pillars sometime in Spring or early Summer.
This will be the first of the Age of Mythology: Retold expansions. Another one is expected to be released, but that one will most likely be announced late in 2025, with a possible release in 2026.
However, most likely, more expansion packs are coming to the game. World’s Edge and Xbox Game Studios have expressed a desire to frequently update the game with quality-of-life features, capabilities, and new expansions.
For example, the new Arena of the Gods free mod is somehow of a campaign in its own right, which reinvigorates the game.
Both the Immortal Pillars and the second expansion of the game are free for those who own the Premium version of the game, so it’s safe to say, there will be more expansions beyond that point.
