Key notes
- Atlanteans can generate Favor right from the beginning of a match.
- Oracles must be trained (up to 10) and sent away to generate Favor.
- You’ll constantly have to look out for them.
One of the biggest changes Age of Mythology: Retold did in comparison to the original game (which you can still get on Steam) is the way the Atlantean Pantheon generates Favor, which is the resource needed to use God Powers, recruit Myth units, and research certain advancements, including Titans.
The Atlantean Pantheon generates favor by building Town Centers in the original game. The first initial Town Center generates an amount of favor – 5.4 Favor/Minute, with the subsequent Town Centers generating more Favor – 6.7 Favor/Minute. This way, players got Favor right from the very beginning of a match.
In Age of Mythology: Retold, the Atlantean Pantheon can still get Favor right from the start, not with Town Centers but with Oracles. These units can be trained from the Temple, and you can only recruit 10 Oracles.
The Oracle passively generates a small amount of favor, which increases based on the extension of the Oracle’s Line of Sight. They generate a minimum of 0.6 Favor per minute up to a maximum of approximately 3.4 Favor per minute. If you turn your Oracle into a Hero – and there are good reasons for you to do so – it will generate even more Favor, more specifically, 4.8 Favor per minute.
However, in Age of Mythology: Retold, placement of the Oracle is essential: if the Line of Sight overlaps with another Oracle’s Line of Sight, only one Oracle will generate favor, in this case. So, a good placement is vital.
Fortunately, the remake also adds a circle around the Oracle, showing how much its Line of Sight extended and how and where to position them.
Understandably, this makes generating Favor for the Atlantean Pantheon a bit tricky in Age of Mythology: Retold. Why? You’ll have to make sure your Oracles don’t overlap, and you’ll also want to place them in faraway corners of the map so your enemy won’t find them easily. Otherwise, you’ll need to recruit Oracles again and maybe find another spot for them to generate Favor.
Age of Mythology: Retold retains the Atlantean Pantheon’s original way of generating Favor through Town Centers. However, you’ll only be able to help them generate this resource once you advance to the Heroic Age and choose Rheia as your Minor God. She’ll grant you the Horns of Consecration technology, which will make your Town Center generate 3 Favor per minute once researched.
Ultimately, you need to know that with the Atlantean Pantheon, you can generate Favor right from the beginning of a match in Age of Mythology: Retold, but you do need to keep an eye on your Oracles.
