It costs more than just Favor, unfortunately.

Key notes
- The God Power turns your Gatherers/Dwarves into Heroes of Ragnarok.
- These are strong hero units that are efficient against all units.
- However, casting it costs more than Favor.
Ragnarok is hands down the most powerful God Power of the Norse Pantheon in Age of Mythology: Retold.
While some might say Nidhogg might be the best, Ragnarok is arguably the better. While Nidhogg provides the player with only one creature, touted as a myth unit that heroes can quickly take down, Ragnarok will give you an army of Heroes of Ragnarok, which are pretty robust units against all other units.
Granted by Baldr, once you reach the Mythic Age, Ragnarok turns all of your Gatherers and Dwarves into Heroes of Ragnarok instantly.
The Heroes of Ragnarok are some of the most powerful infantry units in Age of Mythology: Retold. They deal a lot of damage (12.8), have a decent health pool (143) and decent speed (4.3), and will benefit from all the armory tech advancements, making them even more powerful.
Like the other Norse units, the Heroes of Ragnarok can repair and construct buildings. They’re heroes, so they can carry Relics and have Divine Immunity, meaning God’s Powers can’t target them.
They’re incredibly strong against myth units and Titans, decimating them in seconds, depending on how many Heroes of Ragnarok you have. However, there is a huge downside to using the God Power to get these Heroes.
Why is Ragnarok the only God Power in Age of Mythology: Retold that costs more than just Favor?
Well, if the answer was not obvious, let me tell you why. Ragnarok stagnates your entire economy when you use it, so in many ways, it will cost you Favor (350, if you’re reusing it) and Food, Gold, and Wood because you have no Gatherers and Dwavers to take care of that.
However, this is easily manageable. If you’re on sea maps, ensure you have Fishing Ships for Food. Otherwise, use the market to recruit Ox Caravans for Gold supply while you resurrect your economy following the cast of this God Power.
To best use it, recruit as many Gatherers and Dwarves as possible, make them gather resources for a limited time, and then cast Ragnarok. You’ll have a powerful army and enough resources to efficiently resurrect your economy if the attack doesn’t go as planned.
Ultimately, the perk with Ragnarok is that Age of Mythology made it quite flexible. You can work around its biggest drawback and then have it decimate your enemies and win your matches. As opposed to the original game, which you can still purchase here, Retold lets you use it as often as you like.
Remember that Heroes of Ragnarok, unfortunately, can’t generate Favor in combat, so you’ll still have to recruit a classic army of Hersirs and other Norse units.
