Vortex is hands down one of the best God Powers to use and one of the most frustrating God Powers to deal with in Age of Mythology: Retold. It was already a blessing and a curse in the original game (which you can still purchase from Steam), but Retold made it even more so.

However, here’s the trick: it will always be a blessing for you and a curse for your enemies, never both for the same team. Basically, Vortex has been thought of in such a way that using it in the Age of Mythology almost feels like cheating.

When cast, it teleports all of your army (excluding work units, Titans, and certain creatures) to a specific point. The Atlantean Minor God Helios grants it after reaching the Mythic Age, and it’s devastating for your enemies.

Similar to the Valor God Power, in Age of Mythology: Retold, you can use Vortex infinitely, granted that you have enough Favor (it costs 25 Favor for the first reuse, then 25 Favor more each time you reuse), and patience (it has a cooldown of 120 seconds).

Why is Vortex so devastating in Age of Mythology: Retold?

Well, basically you can use it to teleport your entire army to distant places. This God Power is a must on sea, island-based maps, and huge maps. It’s relatively cheap to use for 25 Favor (and here is a guide on how to earn Valor as an Atlantean), and it has a decent cooldown of 120 seconds, giving you enough time to recruit a sizeable army.

Why is it devastating? Well, you can use Vortex to transport your entire army directly into the heart of your enemy’s base while they make their way to attack you. Given you have a line of sight – you need it to cast it, but you can easily accomplish that with a flying Caladria – you can take the fight to their base when it’s undefended and take care of both things in one shot.

It’s also a perfect way to deal with Titan Gates, Wonders, or Titans. You can use Vortex to quickly teleport your entire army close to the Titan Gate and demolish it in seconds. The same can be done with a Wonder. Speaking of the Titan, the Atlantean pantheon can turn infantry into heroes, so do that, then use Vortex directly where the Titan is located. You’ll get it down in no time.

On huge maps, or those with many islands, Vortex means you won’t have to transport your army across islands using ships. You can just easily cast this God Power and be done with it.

The good thing is that Age of Mythology also designed Vortex to be used defensively. If you know you don’t stand a chance, you can use it to teleport your army away from conflict to your main base or a second base.

Vortex is one of the most versatile and valuable God Powers in Age of Mythology, and I hope it won’t get nerfed even if using it feels like cheating.

If you do want to use cheats in the game, you can do so very easily. It can be fun.
