The Mummy was already one of the strongest myth units in Age of Mythology, but Retold makes it even stronger, and I dare to say, probably the strongest Egyptian Myth unit.

Why? Well, compared to the Avenger or the Phoenix, both incredible myth units in their own right, the Mummy has one of the greatest qualities for a creature in Age of Mythology: endurance.

Granted by Osiris (which is by far the greatest Egyptian Minor God there is in Age of Mythology), the Mummy is a ranged unit that can spawn other creatures with its attacks by cursing its enemies.

Not only does the curse inflict additional damage, which enhances the Mummy’s attack, but it will also summon a Minion creature when the unit is killed, which helps the Mummy take on small armies by itself.

This means you can easily take an army of 8-10 infantry with 2 Mummies without worrying about them getting killed.

However, one thing makes the Mummy incredible, but it’s only available in Retold.

This is why the Mummy is one of the best myth units in Age of Mythology: Retold

Age of Mythology: Retold enhances the Mummy with a special ability called Lifesteal, and as its name suggests, this helps the mummy regenerate hit points equal to 20% of the damage dealt.

This ability was absent from the original game, but it makes the mummy one of the most resistant creatures in Retold. Basically, it can take out small armies by itself and also heal itself in the process.

One of the drawbacks of this unit, though, is that it costs 275 Wood and 25 Favor to recruit, and Wood is not really an important resource in the Egyptian Pantheon.

However, if you’re thinking about using the Son of Osiris God Power, which is arguably the best in the game, then you are already prepared to recruit Mummies, so this is not really a problem.
