Key notes
- They can be slow but necessary.
- You can also use them against myth units but must upgrade them.
- Here’s why you need to recruit them.
In Age of Mythology: Retold, the Oracle is one of the most essential units in the Atlantean Pantheon. Regardless of the Atlantean Major Gods you’re playing with; the Oracle cannot be avoided, as you’ll need it to research advancements, recruit Myth units, and know the ways of your enemies.
Since the Oracle is an elusive unit, today we’re presenting you with the Top 5 most important things you should know about it and why recruiting them when you’re playing Atlantean is necessary.
1. In Age of Mythology: Retold, the Oracle generates Favor for the Atlantean Pantheon
While the Greeks used Villagers to generate favor, their Atlantean cousins used Oracles. But not anyhow. They will generate favor by uncovering the fog of war on the map. Oracles generate between 1-6 Favor/minute, depending on the area they uncovered.
With Age of Mythology: Retold, Oracles need to be away from each other, and their uncovered areas should not overlap. Otherwise, they won’t be able to generate Favor as individual units.
2. Oracles can only be recruited from Temples
You can only start recruiting Oracles once you build a temple, which might take a while. However, you’re grated 1 Oracle at the beginning of every Age of Mythology: Retold match, so, at least, you’ll generate Favor right from the start.
3. You can only recruit 10 Oracles at a time
You can recruit a maximum of 10 Oracles in a Match, including the Hero Oracles, but that’s more than enough, considering you can generate around 70 Favors/minute if used properly.
Plus, it won’t stress your population space, allowing you to easily manage your Army, knowing you only spent 10 spaces for them.
4. Oracles can become Hero Oracles
As with all Atlantean Units, Oracles can also be turned into Hero Oracles, for a price, giving them a slightly increased rate of generating Favor, and the ability to carry Relics.
Plus, converting them to Hero Oracles will give them Pierce attacks, which might not be the best, but it can seriously damage a Myth Unit.
5. In Age of Mythology: Retold the Oracle can win you matches
Suppose the original Age of Mythology (which can still be purchased here, by the way), the line of sight would suddenly disappear when moving the Oracle. In that case, Retold has tweaked the unit to progressively lose it, which can still give you time to move it properly when it’s attacked.
Plus, when placed correctly and in corners, the Oracle becomes concealed in the background, making it harder for your enemy to spot it.
Its greatest asset is the ability to sort of spy on your enemies, and if you place it in essential spots, you can get a peek at your enemy’s movements. For example, you can spot an incoming attack with an Oracle and prepare for it accordingly. Or you can see when your enemy’s army leaves the base, and you can attack it.
Ultimately, it’s all about strategy, but Age of Mythology: Retold enhanced the Oracle to be a resource generator and a powerful supporting unit.
