It’s hard to choose the best Egyptian God in Age of Mythology: Retold, as this Pantheon has some of the best gods in the whole game, from Major Gods that can win you matches to Minor Gods that give you access to incredible God Powers and amazing Myth units, playing as Egyptians is always a blast.
The Egyptian Pantheon is heavily focused on the Economy and its Minor Gods. Whether we’re talking about the Classical, Heroic, or Mythic Age, these gods come to empower your Villagers and ensure that you never run out of resources.
What’s important to know is that Villagers of this Pantheon are the slowest work units in the game, so when choosing your the best Egyptian Minor God in Age of Mythology: Retold, always keep in mind that you need to boost their performance to have a sustainable economy.
The list below is among the best Minor Gods of the Egyptian Pantheon in Age of Mythology: Retold. We made this top based on the utility of the God Power and strength of the Myth units, as well as the tech advances of these Minor Gods.
The Best Egyptian Minor God in Age of Mythology: Retold
Classical Age:
3. Ptah
Ptah is the weakest Egyptian God in the Age of Mythology: Retold, but even so, you shouldn’t totally avoid him. Available to worshippers of Ra and Set, his tech focuses on infantry and food gathering.
His myth unit is the Wadjet; a regenerating ranged creature that spits poison on enemies. Best used defensively, the Wadjet is quite vulnerable to attacks and can be easily killed.
His God Power is the Shifting Sands, which lets you transport your units anywhere in sight. While seemingly weak, it’s part of a very effective Egyptian Build Order that can win you matches.
Should you choose Ptah? While he is indeed an underwhelming Minor God, he can still be chosen for various reasons. One, your infantry will be stronger thanks to his technological advancements, and two, your Villagers will gather more food from Farms and be cheaper to build, too. So, if you’re a player who values infantry over myth units, Ptah is the right choice.
2. Bast
Bast is a favorite, and choosing her is almost mandatory if you’re playing with Ra, as her tech focuses on Villagers, making them gather resources much faster. She can be chosen if you worship Ra or Isis.
Her myth unit is the Sphinx, a powerful creature that is very effective at destroying buildings. It can be upgraded twice, and its final form is quite strong and resilient against Infantry.
Her God Power is the Eclipse, which offers 50%+ attack and 20% speed to all Myth units while blocking the usage of other God Powers.
Should you choose Bast? If you’re playing aggressively while also focusing on growing your Economy, Bast is the God to go. Your Villagers will gather resources much faster, and coupled with Ra’s empowerment, you’ll probably be the most excellent economy in the game. Eclipse is also incredibly useful when attacking your enemy with Myth units, including your Titan, as they will demolish almost anything in their path. So, yes, Bast is a good choice.
1. Anubis
Anubis is the best Egyptian Minor God of the Classical Age in Age of Mythology: Retold for three reasons: his Myth unit, his tech advances, and his ability to make Monuments earn more favor. When given the chance to choose him, and he can be chosen by worshippers of Set and Isis, do so, as he’s very versatile.
His Myth unit is the Anubite, which is a fast, relatively cheap, and incredibly effective creature against the Infantry, as it can quickly dispatch small armies with ease. Upgrade this creature as soon as possible for even more perks.
His God Power is Plague of Serpent, and it can be used defensively and offensively to protect yourself or attack your enemy. It summons dozens of serpent creatures that attack your opponents.
Should you choose Anubis? Yes. The Anubite is cheap and strong, so your infantry will be stronger. Thanks to the Necropolis, your monuments will generate Favor 10% faster, which is always welcoming. Consider choosing Nephthys in the Heroic Age and Horus in the Mythic Age to subsequently amplify the Infantry.
Heroic Age:
3. Sekhmet
Sekhmet is fairly strong as an Egyptian Minor God, and she can be chosen if you worship Ra or Set. Her focus is on Archers and Siege, and if you want your Town Center to be impenetrable, choosing her is the best decision.
Her Myth unit, the Scarab, is an incredibly resilient creature that acts as a siege unit. Powerful against buildings, the Scarab will leave a pool of toxins when killed, severely harming units.
Her God Power is the Citadel, which turns your Town Center into a mighty Fortress, making it durable against attacks.
Should you choose Sekhmet? She is the only option if you want to play defensively and have a soft spot for siege units. Your Town Center will sustain most attacks, your archers will hit harder, and the Scarab is a powerful tank unit.
2. Nephthys
Nephthys is hands down one of the best gods in the Egyptian Pantheon because she focuses on Priests, the only Hero unit of this civilisation, and makes them more robust against Myth units. She can be chosen if you worship Isis or Set, and if you chose Anubis in the Classical Age, choosing her is a must.
Her Myth units are the Scorpion Man (on land) and Leviathan (on sea). The Scorpion Man is quite fast and very effective against Infantry, being able to poison them. The Leviathan is a more reliable form of water transport due to its big health pool.
Her God Power is Ancestors, and it can be used on land and sea. Like Anubis’ Plague of Serpents, Ancestors summon undead minions or ships to deal with the enemy.
Should you choose Nephthys? If you want to have even stronger Priests, she is a must. Priests and Pharaohs will do more damage to myth units, and if they die, Nephthys will give you five gold back for each of them. Coupled with Anubis’ tech advancements, the Scorpion Man can become a beast on the battlefield.
1. Sobek
Replacing Hator from the original game (which can still be purchased, by the way), Sobek is the best Egyptian Minor God of the Heroic Age simply because of his Myth units. Those worshipping Ra and Isis can choose him.
His Myth units are the Petsuchos and Rocs. The first is a ranged creature effective at dealing total damage from a safe distance. The Rocs are the game’s only aerial transport unit, making it valuable on larger maps.
His God Power Locust Swarm is quite underwhelming for a Heroic God. It destroys Farms or Fishing Ships along with the Villagers and the Infantry that happens to be there.
Should you choose Sobek? Yes, his tech advancements will make your buildings and Camel Riders stronger, which is always a good thing, both defensively and offensively. Plus, once upgraded, an army of Petsuchos can obliterate your enemies in a few minutes.
Mythic Age:
3. Thoth
Thoth is a good choice for a Mythic God, and his focus is on your Villagers and Midgol Stronghold units. You can choose him if you worship Isis or Set, and he is a popular choice, all thanks to his devastating God Power.
His Myth units are the Phoenix (land, air) and the War Turtle (sea). The Phoenix does splash damage to units and once killed, it can be reborn if you protect the egg. The War Turtle is slow but resilient and effective against other sea units.
His God Power, Meteor, rains meteors on the enemy’s base. These meteors are devastating to buildings, causing huge damage to them. However, units can easily survive them.
Should you choose Thoth? Under his tutelage, you’ll be able to recruit Midgol Stronghold units incredibly fast, allowing to form an army in case of need quickly. If you play offensively, casting Meteor on your enemy and then attacking them is one of the most efficient ways to win a match, so yes.
2. Horus
Horus is a great choice as a Mythic God if you have already chosen Anubis back in the Classical Age, but even without that, he’s still a great pick. His focus is the Infantry, and under his tutelage, available to those worshipping Ra and Set, they will become devastating on the battlefield thanks to God’s tech advancements.
His Myth unit is the Avenger, which is extremely efficient towards other melee units and can kill multiple targets simultaneously. However, this Myth unit is quite vulnerable to attacks.
His God Power is the Tornado, and similar to Meteor, this one can be equally devastating to units and buildings.
Should you choose Horus? Yes, he is a great choice, especially if you’ve been investing resources into Infantry. Casting Tornado before attacking your enemy is a great tactic that will allow you to win matches easily and quickly.
1. Osiris
Osiris is the best Egyptian Minor God in Age of Mythology: Retold and one of the best overall, and it’s all due to his incredible God Power. You can choose him if you worship Isis or Ra, and his focus is on Pharaoh and Camel Riders.
His Myth unit is the Mummy, a ranged unit that can curse other units to summon Minions after they die. This creature was relatively weak in the original game, but Retold makes it stronger and a viable option for a sustainable army.
His God Power is the fabulous Son of Osiris, probably the best God Power in the whole game. This will turn your Pharaoh into the mighty Son of Osiris hero creature, which is exceptionally strong – almost a Titan in its own right – and can attack multiple units at once with devastating damage. However, it can’t be healed.
Should you choose Osiris? Yes, the Son of Osiris alone makes Osiris a great choice. By the time you reach the Mythic Age, you’ll have plenty of flavor to get two or even three Sons of Osiris, which will make you invulnerable on the battlefield.
This is it, folks. This is our list of the best Egyptian Minor Gods in the Age of Mythology: Retold. Whether you play or not with them is your choice. However, this pantheon has a great array of powerful gods that can really shift the sands of a battle (pun intended), so just because we placed Ptah as the weakest god doesn’t make him the weakest.
It’s all about your style. Oh, and if you’re interested in the Greek Gods, head over here and see why you should always choose Athena in the Classical Age.
