AoM Retold Update 17.30764 brings Stability, UI, and Gameplay Enhancements

The latest update for Age of Mythology: Retold brings significant changes, including stability and performance fixes, improved graphics, audio adjustments, and enhanced gameplay balance across all pantheons. Key highlights include fixes for crashes, enhancements in user interface functionality, and updates to controller and hotkey settings. Notable gameplay tweaks improve unit performance and god powers, with specific changes to major gods and myth units across Greek, Egyptian, Norse, and Atlantean factions.

This is the 2nd update after the one issued around 3 weeks ago, shortly after general availability. Find below the patch note in its entirety:

Stability & Performance

  • Fixes for various situations where a crash could occur.
  • Fix for an out-of-sync that could occur when casing the Undermine God power.
  • Fix for an out-of-sync that could occur when a unit is stunned.
  • Fix for an out-of-sync that could occur when changing unit formations.
  • Fix for an out-of-sync that could occur during wall placement.
  • Fix for an out-of-sync that could occur when loading into specific maps like Arena.
  • Fix for an out-of-sync that could occur during pathfinding while playing with an AI.
  • Fix for an out-of-sync that could occur when playing with players using different operating system versions.
  • Fix for an out-of-sync that could occur when playing on the Windows Insider Update 24H2 for Windows 11.
  • Fix a situation where input initialization failure could prevent the game from launching.
  • Fixed a performance problem that could occur after loading a saved scenario.

Localization

  • Updates for localized strings.

Achievements

  • Fixes to improve support for achievement progression when players are offline.
  • The Pet of Set achievement can now be completed while offline.

Graphics

  • Fixed a bug causing particle effect shadows to appear darker than intended when Ray Tracing is enabled.
  • Fimbulwinter VFX no longer spawns on allied/neutral TCs.
  • Berserks no longer display VFX for the Fury of the Fallen bonus upon being spawned.
  • Fixed a bug causing relic attach points to sometimes break when loading games.
  • Minor visual polish for some graphic assets and VFX.

Audio

  • Minor improvements to audio volume in situations where it was too loud.
  • Unit voices are now controlled by the Speech On and Speech Volume options instead of the general Sound options.

UI

  • Spider Lair and Loki Spy Eye no longer appear on the Active God power list for non-allied players when cast.
  • UI polish to fix minor layout and text clipping issues.
  • Icons now show next to players in multiplayer lobbies to show the input mode they are using.
  • Game Paused text is now displayed in the HUD when the game is paused.
  • Resource storage is now properly refreshed when changing unit selection in all cases.
  • Fixed slow download speeds when downloading large save files in a multiplayer lobby.
  • Multiplayer skirmish lobby settings now persist from your last hosted game.
  • Ranked and Quick Match choices now persist from the last time you queued.
  • A new visible option has been added to map visibility.
  • Players you recently played with will now appear in the invite-to-party default list.
  • Observer delay while waiting to spectate a live match is now shown in the UI.
  • Faster updates in the Lobby Browser.
  • Added a window notification and sound to alert players when a game is found and the window is not active or is minimized.
  • Multiplayer server regions are now consistently named and sorted.
  • Performance warnings will no longer show in auto-matched lobbies.
  • Notifications for failing to garrison units are no longer displayed for all players.
  • Steam users trying to use the new Game ID URLs may need to verify the game integrity of the files via Steam to allow the URLs to work from outside of the game.
  • Fixed a bug that caused canceled technologies to inflate the post-game economy resources.
  • God Picker Tech Tree view now correctly accounts for Tech Tree overrides.
  • Fixed a bug causing partial name searches to not work when searching to invite friends.
  • The Browse Games lobby now features sortable headers.
  • Spectators are now shown as a new sortable column in the Browse Games lobby.
  • Quick Match and Ranked matches will now show with player names in the match title in the Browse Games Lobby.
  • Fixed a bug causing some player reporting options to show an error when submitting a report.
  • Added new filter to the Browse Games lobby to hide/show full games.

Hotkeys

  • Pre-queue hotkeys have been added.
  • Find & Select Myth Unit hotkey entries added.
  • Kataskopos and Roc are no longer selected with the Select All Military Hotkey.
  • Fixed a bug causing hotkeys assigned to the mouse wheel not to work.
  • Added a hotkey to select a hero (and cycle between heroes) without snapping the camera.
  • Added alternative hotkeys for some economic buildings to allow all cultures to have the same set of hotkeys for drop sites.
  • Added a hotkey to show the tech tree.
  • The XS Debugger dialog is no longer opened when pressing the default hotkey for selecting all Heroes (Alt-Shift-d) unless one of the XS debugging configs is enabled.

Controller/Xbox

  • Expanded minimap inputs can now be performed while the controller RB button is held.
  • DPad quick commands were added for the control groups menu.
  • Improvements to quick find functionality.
  • Improvements to Y quick actions.
  • UI interactions not currently available will now hide for the controller UI.
  • Added vibration feedback for hold events.
  • Ongoing improvements to controller UI.

Gameplay

Fixes

  • Researching ‘Secrets of the Titans’ before or after building a Wonder no longer results in different cost/cooldown values.
  • Wonder Age no longer causes Asgardian Bastion to become free if Ring-Oath has been researched.
  • Meteor Roulette cheat now has its intended effect.
  • The Omniscience tech cost is now calculated correctly when pre-queued.
  • Units that can’t be healed (e.g., Son of Osiris) can no longer progressively restore their hitpoints when garrisoned in a building.
  • Fixed a bug where Zeus’s Favor gather rate bonus, and Golden Apples effect were incorrectly generating more favor than intended, especially with many villagers praying.
  • Fixed a bug that caused some units not to begin patrolling when ordered if they were ordered to patrol from within a formation.
  • Fixed a bug causing enabling/disabling units through triggers not to persist when loaded from save games.
  • Land and naval units can now be selected in the same group.
  • Fixed a bug allowing many Colossus to overlap when using the heal ability.
  • Caravans will now recalculate their carried resources when tasked to perform trading on another Town Center. 
  • Target armor and damage bonuses no longer persist to all units affected by area persistent damage.Used by Centaurs, Chimeras, and similar units.

Campaign

Campaigns Balance Changes

  • The Servant of Kronos pin in the campaign menu now appears in its correct location for the Prologue.
  • Visual minor polish adjustments were applied to many campaign missions.
  • Improvements to AI, balance, and triggers for many campaign missions.
  • Missions that had updates include at least:
    • Fall of the Trident 05, 06, 07, 09, 12, 15, 16, 17, 18, 20, 21, 22, 23, 26, 29, 30, 31.
    • The New Atlantis 01, 02, 03, 08, 10.
    • Mythical Battle God Pack Map.

Balance

General

  • Docks: Addressed the following issues:
    • Can now properly target Sea Snakes and Water Carnivoras.
    • Fixed a bug where Docks incorrectly showed 2 projectiles in the HUD (they fire 1 projectile)
  • Deathmatch (gamemode): Starting Resources 15000 → 20000 Food, Wood and Gold.
  • Heroic Fleet: Cost reduced from 200 Food 200 Gold 15 Favor → 150 Food 150 Gold 10 Favor.

All Pantheon Changes

Greek Pantheon

  • Favor Rate Formula: Greeks now earn less favor when praying with larger numbers of Villagers (this effect was already present but has been made more pronounced). Below are some examples of the new rate at different amounts of villagers:
    • 1 villager: No change in favor rate.
    • 5 villagers: -4.6% total favor income compared to before.
    • 25 villagers: -17.6% total favor income compared to before.

Major Gods

Poseidon
  • Lure (God Power): Fixed a bug where it was unable to research granary upgrades (now behaves exactly as if it were a granary).

Minor Gods

  • Dionysus: Thracian Horses (Technology) – Cavalry Lifesteal increased from 20% → 30%.
  • Aphrodite: Curse (God Power) – Total unit resource value converted reduced from 850 → 800.

Myth Units

  • Centaur (Hermes): Adjusted as follows
    • Special Attack bonus damage vs. heroes reduced from 0.5x → 0.25x.
    • Centaur Cost increased from 180 Wood 12 Favor → 180 Wood 14 Favor.

Human Units

  • Archaic Age Heroes: Jason, Ajax, and Theseus, adjusted as follows:
    • Train Time decreased from 15 → 5 seconds.
    • Bonus vs. Myth Units increased from 9x → 12x.
    • Hitpoints reduced by 50.

Egyptian Pantheon

Major Gods

Ra
  • Additional bonus: Berry Bushes are now gathered 25% faster. (This means Ra Villagers gather berries as fast as huntable animals!)
Isis

Flood of the Nile (Technology): Cost increased from 135 Gold 5 Favor → 135 Gold 8 Favor.

Minor Gods

  • Ptah:Electrum Bullets (Technology) – Adjusted as follows
    • +15% Slinger Damage removed, replaced with Slinger +1 Divine damage.
    • Cost increased from 100 Gold 10 Favor → 150 Gold 15 Favor.
  • Anubis: Plague of Serpents (God Power) – Sea Snakes adjusted as follows
    • Hitpoints decreased from 90 → 65.
    • Hack Damage decreased from 11 → 9.
    • Chase Distance decreased from 20 → 16.
  • Sobek/Hathor: Locust Swarm (God Power) – Locusts swarm is now wider, making possible to damage more units.

Myth Units

  • Roc (Sobek/Hathor): Can now properly use the Patrol command.
  • Petsuchos (Sobek/Hathor): Bonus Damage vs Myth Units increased from 1x → 2x.
  • Scarab (Sekhmet): Crush Damage increased from 55 → 75.

Buildings

  • Monument To Soldiers: Cost increased from 75 Food 75 Gold → 100 Food 100 Gold. (this is the second available monument)

Norse Pantheon

  • Convert Villager to Berserk: Cost increased from 30 gold → 20 Food 30 Gold.
  • Convert Dwarf to Berserk: Cost 20 increased from 20 Food → 30 Food 10 Gold.

Major Gods

Odin
  • Great Hunt (God Power): Great Hunt Maximum Food created in Archaic Age reduced from 800 → 600.
  • Raven (Scout): Line of Sight reduced from 20 → 10, but now also gains +4 line of sight per age-up.
Loki
  • Convert Villager/Dwarf to Berserk: Is no longer free, instead cost is reduced by 50%.

Minor Gods

  • Vidar: Fury of the Fallen (Technology) – Now indicates affected units with a vfx.

Atlantean Pantheon

Starting Wood: Increased from 200 → 250.

Major Gods

Gaia
  • Economic Guild Upgrades: Cost reduction increased from -35% → -40%.
  • Economic Guild: Gaia now also reduces the building’s cost by -40% as well (previously didn’t).
  • Gaia Lush: Maximum Radius increased from 20 → 24.

Minor Gods

  • Oceanus: Carnivora (God Power) – The Water Carnivora has been adjusted as follows
    • Fixed an issue where it would occasionally kill ships instantly.
    • Water Carnivora Hack Damage increased from 20 → 30.
    • Water Carnivora Pierce Armor increased from 20% → 30%.
  • Prometheus: Alluvial Clay (Technology) – Promethean & Promethean Offspring Hitpoints improvement decreased from +30% → +20%.
  • Theia
    • Poseidon’s Secret (Technology) – Now also reduces the cost of heroizing Cavalry Units.
    • Hesperides Tree (God Power): Now also spawns 2 Dryads each time it is cast (Note: first two casts are free).
  • Hyperion
    • Heroic Renewal (Technology) – Now also gives +10% Hitpoints to Heroes.
    • Chaos (God Power): Cost increased from 50 → 60. Cooldown increased from 150 → 180.
  • Leto: Spider Lair (God Power) – Cooldown reduced from 120 → 90 seconds.
  • Atlas: Implode (God Power) – Units are now sucked in faster.

Myth Units

  • Promethean (Prometheus): Cost increased from 75 Food 8 Favor → 90 Food 8 Favor.
  • Lampades (Hekate): Adjusted as follows
    • Damage changed from 24 Pierce 20 Crush → 24 Pierce 20 Divine.
    • Attack Range increased from 10 → 12.

Human Units

  • Atlantean Heroes: Bonus damage vs. Myth Units increased:
    • Oracle Hero: 5x → 6x
    • Katapeltes Hero: 8x → 9x
    • Turma Hero: 6x → 8x
    • Murmillo Hero: 5x → 5.5x
    • Contarius Hero: 5x → 7x
    • Destroyer Hero: 9x → 11x
    • Fanatic Hero: 6x → 8x
  • Arcus: Movement Speed increased from 3.75 → 4.0 (Arcus hero adjusted accordingly).
  • Oracle Heroes: Are no longer found/selected with the Find / Select Hero hotkeys.

Buildings

  • Economic Guild: Cost decreased from 80 Wood 15 Gold → 50 Wood 15 Gold. (Note: therefore the new cost for Gaia is 30 Wood 9 Gold – lush go brrr)
  • Manor: Adjusted as follows
    • Hitpoints increased from 500 → 800.
    • Build Points decreased from 28 → 25.

Modding

General

Fixed an issue when unsubscribing from a mod was impossible if the original publisher had unpublished the mod.

UI mods are now treated as safe for Multiplayer, including Ranked/Quickplay.

Fixed bug causing mods not to install correctly when there is a symlink in the file directory.

FOV from modded main menu background scenarios no longer persists into gameplay.
