age of mythology titan

The Titan is by far the strongest unit in Age of Mythology: Retold. It is a huge myth unit with a gigantic health pool, and it can easily destroy your base if you allow it to get near. Recruiting it is a sign of healthy gameplay, as it requires a lot of resources and a lot of Villagers to get it.

Fortunately, though, it can only be recruited later in the game, and I say fortunately because having a Titan is like using cheats in Age of Mythology: Retold. Not that you can’t use them – we even encourage you to, as it can make the game more fun – but they’re so powerful that you can take whole armies with them.

However, it can also be easily killed – with the right tactics – but that’s the topic for another article, which you can read here. This article discusses everything about the Titan creature in the Age of Mythology: Retold, from hitpoints to abilities and attacks, and how to recruit them.

All you need to know about a Titan in Age of Mythology: Retold

How to recruit them a Titan in Age of Mythology

To recruit a Titan in Age of Mythology: Retold, you’ll need to advance to the Mythic Age and research the Secret of the Titans. This can be done at the Town Center, costing you 800 Food, 800 Gold, 800 Wood, and 50 Favor. It will take about 60 seconds.

Once researched, the Secret of the Titans will grant you the Titan Gate Power God, which can be placed anywhere in the line of sight. It starts at 7500 Hitpoints, and you must bring it to 15000 Hitpoints by using your Villagers to build it. Depending on the number of Villagers used it can take about 1350 seconds to complete. When it’s done, a Titan will appear, and the gate is destroyed.

Like any other building, the Titan Gate can be destroyed while being built, so you’ll want to defend it as best as you can. If you fail, though, you can build another when you reach the Wonder Age (you’ll need to build a Wonder for that), but it will cost 400 Favor, and subsequent uses cost double the favor.

The Titan – Stats and Abilities

Contrary to the original game (which is still available to purchase on Steam, if you want to play it), Age of Mythology: Retold upgrades the Titan with more attack, abilities, and hitpoints.

  • Hitpoints: 28000 (Mythic Age) 56000 (Wonder Age)
  • Speed: 3.75 (Mythic Age) 4.5 (Wonder Age)
  • Line of Sight: 25
  • Armor: 60 Hack, 80 Pierce, 80 Crush
  • Hack and crush attack: 70 (Mythic Age) 140 (Wonder Age)

It does extra damage to human soldiers (x2) and myth units (x2), buildings (x5), and other Titans (x20).

It takes less damage from Bolt, is immune to Spy, Curse, Frost, Tempest, Shockwave, Traitor, Chaos, and Implode, and benefits from all the tech and relics focusing on Myth units.

As an ability, Titan has the Titanic Smash, an AoE attack that stuns units and causes them huge damage. It works on all units except frozen units and other Titans.

Contrary to the original game, Age of Mythology: Retold makes the Titan capable of walking over water and walls with the new Titanic Stature ability. It also makes it destroy nearby buildings when moving; it instantly destroys walls. However, it won’t destroy your walls; you’ll need a gate to get it inside your base.

Each Pantheon has a different Titan

Keeping in touch with the sentiment of the original game, Age of Mythology: Retold gives players a different Titan for each Pantheon.

The Greeks will have Cerberus, the legendary three-headed dog, while the Egyptians get Ra, their Sun God.

The Norse will get a massive Giant with a mighty hammer, and the Atlanteans get a Titan similar to a Lava Golem.

They’re only visually different, retaining the same abilities, but Age of Mythology: Retold also enhances their animations. For example, the Norse and Atlantean Titan will leave a trace of ice and lava, respectively, everywhere they walk.

Having said this, getting a Titan means a long match in Age of Mythology: Retold, and when it comes to multiplayer games, which are known to be swift, a Titan is a rare sight. But even so, if your opponent has one, you can easily encounter the creature with many heroes. If you want to know how to kill a Titan swiftly and effectively, read this article.

Ultimately, if given the chance to get a Titan, take it. In most cases, it means a sure win.
