The core of Greek build orders in Age of Mythology: Retold is versatility, as the Greek Pantheon is probably the easiest to master, and its Major Gods are some of the best in the game. If you’re starting as a beginner in this game, then choosing to play with the Greeks will make you fall in love with it.
But, as always, you’ll need to know a few build orders for the Greek Pantheon to survive and maybe even win some of those Age of Mythology: Retold matches.
We discussed two of them when we gathered the best build orders in Age of Mythology: Retold, but we have some more, including a couple of build orders for beginners.
So, without further ado, here are some of the best build orders for the Greek pantheon.
The Best Greek Build Orders for Beginners in Age of Mythology: Retold
The Sentinel Defensive Build Order (Hades)
We already know the Sentinel God Power is one of the best Archaic God Powers. Early in the game, it can add extra protection to your Town Center, allowing you to focus on building your Temple and advancing your age.
Naturally, there is a Build Order based on it.
Archaic Age: Step-by-Step Guide
- Send your starting Villagers to collect Food
- Build a Granary next to the Food.
- Recruit more Villagers (up to 5) and order them to collect Food.
- Scout the area.
- Use the Sentinel Power near the Town Center.
- Research Hunting Dogs and Husbandry.
- Build a Storehouse near gold and wood.
- Recruit 2 Villagers to gather Gold.
- Build a house around Sentinels.
- Order 2 Food Villagers to Gather Wood.
- Build a Temple
- Recruit Villagers (up to 7) and collect Food.
- Create a Granary near another food source and send Villagers to collect the next source of Food.
- Advance to the Classic Age.
Classical Age: Step-by-Step Guide
- Create more villages and distribute evenly between Wood and Gold.
- You should have 9 on Food, 6 on Wood, and 5 on Gold.
- Build a house, and place it near the same Sentinel as before.
- Build an Archery Range.
- Upgrade Archery.
- Upgrade Gathering – Wood and Gold.
- Recruit Toxotes.
- Recruit Ajax and have him get nearby Relics.
- Move Food Villagers to the next Food source and build another Granary there.
- Build a house near Sentinel.
- Build a Barrack, and the Hoplites to the medium rank.
- Upgrade your Towers.
Why It Works: It gives a lot of defensive power everywhere. You have the Sentinels, and you have your Guard Towers protecting you. The Houses around Sentinels will protect them for a while against melee damage, which is another bonus. You can easily focus on recruiting an army without paying too much attention to enemy attacks.
This Greek Build Order is also one of the best to play defensively in Age of Mythology: Retold if being aggressive is not your style. However, if you want to annihilate your enemy quickly, advance to the Classical Age by choosing Ares, then use 2-3 Cyclops and the army of Hoplites and Toxotes to attack your enemy right after they attack you. Use Pestilence to stop any military building from recruiting, and order your Cyclops to destroy them. It will be easier to take out Villagers afterward.
The Double Town Center Greek Build Order (Zeus, Poseidon, Hades)
Archaic Age:
- Send 3 Villagers to collect Food, 1 Villager to collect Wood, and 2 Villagers to collect Gold.
- Recruit Villagers until you have 9 to Food.
- Build a Temple.
- Build a House.
- Put the remaining Villagers to Gold until you reach 16 population space
- Advance to the Classical Age.
Classical Age:
- Order your Gold Villagers to build another Town Center at the nearest Settlement.
- Build an Archery Range.
- Upgrade Archery and recruit Toxotes.
- Build a Miliary Building and recruit Hoplites.
- Turn your Hoplites into Medium Hoplites.
- Build an Armory and research Armory tech.
Why It Works: You’ll get access to two Town Centers in the first 4 minutes of the game, giving you much more versatility with your game later. Plus, if you’re choosing Hermer, his Ceasefire God Power can be used to effectively build that second Town Center, even if your enemy is attacking you.
This Build Order is one of the best Greek Build Orders in Age of Mythology: Retold because it will let you play aggressively and defensively, and it will take longer for your enemies to destroy your base.
