Lure is one of the most useful God Powers in Age of Mythology, but it has a huge drawback

Those worshipping the Major Greek God, Poseidon, will get the Lure God Power, which is one of the most useful abilities for the early game in Age of Mythology: Retold, along with Hades’ Sentinel.

When invoked, this God Power summons a stone engraved with Poseidon’s legendary trident rune, which attracts all huntable and herdable animals in the local area.

Compared to the original game, Age of Mythology: Retold enhances Lure to also automatically appear with several chickens, based on your Age (3/4/6/10/15 per Archaic/Classical/Heroic/Mythic/Wonder).

Another enhancement is that the Retold makes Lure act like a Granary, meaning you can research its techs without having to build a Granary in the early game.

It stops luring animals once the amount of food harvested from them reaches 1000.

However, despite this, this God Power has a huge drawback.

Why Lure might not be worth it in Age of Mythology: Retold

As you might have figured out by now, Lure is extremely useful only to Age of Mythology players in the early game.

You won’t have to spend time and resources building a Granary when you can use Lure and have all the animals come to you. This also makes it a great God Power for food management in the early game, and it lets you research important Granary tech right from the start.

However, it becomes almost completely useless by the end of the game when you’re not relying on hunting animals for food, and your resource management and flow are set in stone.

So, post Heroic Age, when you’re starting to farm, and you’re getting Food out of that, it would be useless to cast Lure and hunt for animals, whereas Hades’ Sentinel is useful throughout all the game, and so is Zeus’ Bolt.

Either way, if you prefer early matches and early aggression, Lure is by far one of the most useful God Powers in the Age of Mythology: Retold.
