Key notes
- Atlanteans prefer quality over quantity.
- Their Gods focus on Heroes and myth units.
The Atlantean Pantheon prefers a quality over quantity perspective in Age of Mythology: Retold, and their Minors Gods reflect this through all sorts of tech advancements that benefit this civilization’s main aspect: turning infantry into heroes.
So, choosing the best of the Atlantean Gods in Age of Mythology: Retold should take into consideration this: Atlantean infantry are usually more expensive, but they’re relatively stronger than those of the other Pantheons. Turning them into heroes, including your Citizens, will ensure you can take down armies of myth units, including the Titan.
Fortunately, there are many ways to turn your infantry into heroes, and some Atlantean Minor Gods are even focused on this particular aspect. But the truth is, you can also use God’s Powers to destroy your opponents, and Atlantean Gods are unique: you can use them multiple times before you have to pay favor to use them again, and some of them are devastating.
Choosing the best Atlantean God in Age of Mythology: Retold is hard, as they’re all relatively strong, but this list should make it easier to decide.
The Best Atlantean Minor Gods in Age of Mythology: Retold
Classical Age:
3. Leto
Leto is generally seen as the weakest of the Atlantean Minor Gods in Age of Mythology: Retold, and it’s not recommended that you choose her if you’re planning to play a long game. She can be chosen for those worshipping Kronos and Gaia, and her tech focuses on her myth unit, the Automaton.
Her myth unit, the Automaton, is a cheap and repairable creature that does decent damage to infantry. However, it can be easily killed, and it’s generally not a good option unless you prefer a quick match.
Her God Power is the Spider Lair, which acts similarly to field mines. Several lairs are laid underground in a specific area; when enemy units cross them, they are damaged or killed.
Should you choose Leto? Well, generally, no. But it’s worth picking her up if you prefer a quick match. The Automata are cheap, and you can easily recruit them to harass your opponents at an early age. However, remember that they’re no longer viable after the Classical Age.
2. Prometheus
Prometheus is considered an excellent Minor God because his tech focuses on turning infantry into cheaper and faster heroes. You can choose him if you’re worshipping Kronos and Oranos.
His myth unit is the Promethean, a relatively effective creature against infantry but susceptible to attacks. It can also split into two smaller creatures when killed.
His God Power is Valor, and you can use it three times to instantly turn some of your infantry into heroes. This is good in dire situations when you need heroes to combat myth units, as the usual transformation into heroes takes 8 seconds in Age of Mythology: Retold (it used to be instant in the original Age of Mythology).
Should you choose Prometheus? Yes, he’s a good option, and his tech works long-term, allowing you to turn the stronger infantry units available in the Heroic or Mythic Age into powerful heroes. For example, if you have to choose between Prometheus and Leto, Prometheus is always the right answer.
1. Oceanus
Oceanus is one the best Atlantean Gods in Age of Mythology: Retold thanks to his myth units and tech advancements. If given the chance to choose him, and you can do so if you worship Gaia and Oranos, you should take him.
His myth units are the Caladria (land/air) and Servant (sea), both exceptional supporting units that can heal other creatures and even slow the enemy. Caladria is a flying unit, which makes it great to have early access to the game, as it can only be targeted by Guard Towers, archers, and Town Centers. The Servant is fast and can heal your naval units, making it a must on sea maps.
His God Power is underwhelming but still strong: Carnivora. It’s a static creature that acts like a Guard Tower that devours units coming close to it. However, it can be quickly taken down by archers. But overall, it can be an excellent defensive unit.
Should you choose Oceanus? Yes, in most cases. Alongside the Myth units, this God has some impressive tech advancements strengthening your infantry. His Frontline Heroics tech allows you to turn infantry into heroes 30% cheaper. You do the math.
Heroic Age:
3. Rheia
Despite the third place, Rheia is quite a versatile God in the Atlantean Pantheon, and her tech focuses on the Favor generation. We all know that earning Favor with this civilization is quite challenging. She can be chosen if you worship Kronos and Gaia.
Her myth unit is the Behemoth, a creature that acts like a siege unit and is incredibly efficient at destroying buildings. With Age of Mythology: Retold, the Behemoth is also slowly regenerating itself, making it quite sustainable.
Her God Power is Traitor, and it can be one of the best situational God Powers in Age of Mythology: Retold if used right. It converts a single enemy unit on your side, and it’s best to use it on powerful Myth units once you reach the population cap. Obviously, it doesn’t work on Titans and special Myth Units.
Should you choose Rheia? Yes, she’s a good choice. Her Gift will no longer require you to spend Favor when researching Favor-based tech, and all the Favor you spent until then will be reimbursed. Plus, her Horns of Consecration will make your Town Centers generate 3 Favor/minute.
2. Hyperion
Available to those worshipping Kronos and Oranos, Hyperion favors the Hero units, making it one of the most versatile Atlantean Gods in Age of Mythology: Retold. His tech makes all of your Hero units regenerate hitpoints; a must on the battlefield.
His myth units are the Nereid (sea) and the Satyr (land). The first can destroy ships in seconds, but it’s fragile to attacks. The second one is a ranged unit, effective against infantry.
His God Power is Chaos, which turns the enemy’s units hostile towards all. It’s best used defensively when the opponent is attacking you.
Should you choose Hyperion? Yes, it is mandatory to choose him if you’re focusing on building an army of Heroes. Plus, he also gives you Hero Oracles, which can attack alongside their exploration abilities.
1. Theia
Theia is one of the best Atlantean Gods in the Age of Mythology: Retold simply due to the perfect balance between her God Power, myth units, and the tech advancements that aid your infantry. She can be chosen if you’re worshipping Oranos and Gaia.
Her myth units are the Stymphalian Birds and Dryads. The first is a flying ranged unit that is effective against infantry and can only be taken down by ranged attacks. The second one comes with Theia’s God Power and costs no Favor to recruit.
Her God Power is the Hesperides, a large tree that can summon up to 5 Dryads. The tree can also heal nearby units and be capturable by enemies and allies.
Should you choose Theia? Yes, the Hesperides is a great God Power that can give you relatively cheap and strong units and heal your army. If you’re using many Cavalry units, choosing Theia is a must, as she will make them stronger.
Mythic Age:
3. Atlas
While being only the third most powerful Atlantean God of the Mythic Age in Age of Mythology: Retold, Atlas is still a good choice if you want your base to be even stronger. Available to those who worship Kronos and Gaia, Atlas focuses on buildings and Palace units, making them very strong.
His myth unit is Argus, a creature that spawns a pool of acid, gradually damaging everyone who steps on it. In the original game, Argus could instantly kill units using its special ability, but that is no longer possible in Retold. However, it makes up for it with a larger health pool and ferocious attack.
His God Power is Implode; depending on the situation, it can obliterate the enemy base. Implode sucks in the enemy’s army and then blows it up, causing massive damage to buildings. The more units are sucked in, the more the damage, so it needs to be cast properly.
Should you choose Atlas? He is a good choice if you want to strengthen your base and recruit powerful Palace units. His Implode is also strong, but it needs to meet certain situations to reach its maximum potential.
2. Helios
Helios is a unique God in the Atlantean Pantheon due to his unique building, the Mirror Tower, which shoots beams of light, and its damage increases if there are more Mirror Towers around. His tech focuses on siege units, and some agree that his myth units might be the most powerful in the whole Age of Mythology: Retold. He can be chosen if you worship Kronos and Oranos.
His myth units are the Centimanus (formerly known as Heka Gigantes in the original game) (land) and Man O’War (sea). The former is devastating against infantry and buildings, creating shockwaves that stun enemies. The latter attacks naval units with chain lighting and is also a unit to be reckoned with.
His God Power is Vortex, and it can be used to teleport your entire army in one spot, making it perfect for massive assaults.
Should you choose Helios? His myth units are strong, his God Power is useful, and the unique Mirror Tower is devastating when defending your base. His tech also strengthens siege units, which is useful when attacking the enemy’s base.
1. Hekate
One of the best gods in Age of Mythology: Retold, not only from the Atlantean Pantheon, Hekate focuses on myth units, allowing them to regenerate while giving them more speed and attack points, including the Atlantean Titan. She can be chosen if you worship Oranos or Gaia.
Her myth unit is the Lampedes, which can cause Chaos in enemy units and turn them into chickens. This relatively weak unit can devastate the enemy’s army when used properly.
Her God Power is the Tartarian Gate, which should only be used offensively. It creates a gate that spawns hostile creatures endlessly until it’s destroyed.
Should you choose Hekate? If you’re focusing on myth units, yes. Her tech will make them regenerate 2HP/second, and all myth units, including the Titan, can benefit from it. She also gives myth units more speed and attack. The Tartarian Gate is also a great God Power when used properly.
This was our list of the best Atlantean Gods in Age of Mythology: Retold. It’s worth mentioning that this is not a definitive list, and you can still choose Leto or Atlas if you enjoy playing with them. These Atlantean Build Orders should give an idea of how to proceed with your chosen gods.
