Key notes

  • You’ll need to build Monuments.
  • There are 5 of them and they must be built in order.
  • You cannot build them at the same time.

In Age of Mythology: Retold, the Egyptian Pantheon earns Favor by having Villagers build Monuments, special buildings that can only be built once.

Same as the original game (which can still be purchased, by the way), there are 5 Egyptian Monuments in total:

  • Monument to Villagers
  • Monument to Soldiers
  • Monument to Priests
  • Monument to Pharaohs
  • Monument to Gods

They each require a different sum of resources and time to build, generating a different tickle of Favor per minute, as follows:

Resource CostBuild TimeHPFavor/Minute
Monument to Villagers50 Gold, Food26 second4506.6
Monument to Soldiers100 Gold, Food404506.6
Monument to Priests150 Gold, Food534506.6
Monument to Pharaohs200 Gold, Food664506.6
Monument to Gods700 Gold, Food8080013.2

Typically, you’ll have to complete the construction of a monument, but you can’t build all of them simultaneously if you want to build the next one.

Egyptian Monuments in Age of Mythology: Retold are essential buildings, and you can’t skip them. Fortunately, they don’t only generate Favor, and building them will grant you many benefits, depending on the Gods you’re choosing to play with.

Egyptian Monuments in Age of Mythology: Retold: Everything you need to know

As we said, depending on the Major God you choose from the Egyptian Pantheon, Monuments will bring extra benefits to your base, including a faster rate for Favor Generation.

  • Playing with Ra will give you access to Mandjet, a passive perk that automatically allows Pharaoph-empowered Monuments to empower nearby buildings. So, you’ll want to build your farms and infantry buildings within the 30 Range of Egyptian Monuments.
  • Playing with Isis will give you access to the Divine Shield, which will protect you from your enemies’ God powers. Empowered Monuments also heal nearby units, aside from Favor, destructive God Powers such as Lightning Bolts. Earthquakes, or Meteors, cannot be cast within your base.
  • Playing with Set (which is by far the strongest Major Egyptian God) will get you access to Devotees, and any Monument placed near Barracks or Midgol Strongholds will reduce the cost of training units by 5%. There will be a red sand visual effect to let you know the perk is happening.

How to Earn Maximum Favor as Egyptians

Suppose you’re considering playing an aggressive match with the Egyptian Pantheon using Myth units. In that case, Isis is best because Empowered Egyptian Monuments will generate 200% more Favor under her worship.

Ra is also an option, as he allows Priests to Empower buildings, and you can do so with all 5 Monuments. However, it’ll still be less than playing with Isis.

With Isis as a Major God, you should choose Anubis as a Minor God, as his Necropolis tech will increase the rate of Favor generation by 10%. These will give you a major boost, as you can see below:

  • Monument to Villagers – 8.25 Favor/Minute.
  • Monument to Soldiers – 8.25 Favor/Minute.
  • Monument to Priests – 8.25 Favor/Minute.
  • Monument to Pharaohs – 8.25 Favor/Minute.
  • Monument to Gods – 16.5 Favor/Minute.

So Isis as a Major God > Anubis as a Minor God. Empower your monuments and research Necropolis ASAP. You should have a steady flow of Favor early in the game.

Speaking of Isis, you might want to follow this build order we discussed in the list of the best Build Orders in Age of Mythology: Retold. If you want a steady flow of Favor, you should learn how to use it properly. There are also options if you want to go with Ra or Set.
