- Depending on your pantheon, Hero units should be recruited for this.
- Always attack the Titan far away from your base.
- Consider attacking in waves.
If you’ve been wondering how to beat a Titan in Age of Mythology: Retold, you’re not the only one. This question has been constantly ruminated since the game was released earlier this month. Why? Well, that’s because the Titans in Age of Mythology: Retold are different from the ones in the original game.
First, let’s state the obvious: in both versions of the game, the Titan is the strongest unit and can easily crush whole armies and bases by itself. To beat a Titan in the Age of Mythology: Retold will require a bit of strategy, a good placement of your units, and a lot of resources.
It’s important to know that in Age of Mythology: Retold, Titans have:
- 28,000 hitpoints, 3.75 speed, 25 line of sight, 60% hack armor, 80% pierce armor, 80% crush armor, 70 hack attack, 70 crush attack, bonus attack against human soldiers, myth units, buildings, and other titans.
- A blast radius of 8 and a range of 2.
- It is considered a myth unit.
- Weak against God Powers.
- They can walk across water (in the original game, which is still available to purchase, by the way, they could not do this).
- They have trample damage and can kill multiple units at once.
With that being said, while they’re the strongest units in the game, Titans aren’t invincible, and you can beat one in Age of Mythology: Retold without necessarily having to get yourself a Titan.
How to beat a Titan in Age of Mythology: Retold
Destroy the Titan Gate before it’s complete
It would be best if you always considered taking down the Titan before it spawns, as in attacking your enemy as they’re working on the Titan Gate. Researching and building it is a slow process that involves using as many work units as possible, which leaves your enemy in a very precarious situation that you can take advantage of.
Fortunately, you can easily cripple your enemy, as the only thing you need to do is kill their villagers and then destroy the Gate.
Beat the Titan with Hero units
It’s important to remember that the Titan is a myth unit, and it’s best to combat it with Hero units.
The Atlantean Panteon
The Atlantean Pantheon, which doesn’t have the best of Major Gods and can be pretty frustrating to play with, is also the best to beat Titans in Age of Mythology: Retold due to the ability to turn every military unit into a Hero.
Make sure to melee the Titan with Hero infantry while surrounding him with as many Hero archery units as possible. It’s also suitable to have all the Armory technology researched.
Have a constant flow of units at the site of the battle and keep the Titan cornered. You should be able to beat it fast and simple.
The Norse Pantheon
Hersirs will be your default choice, and you’ll want an army always ready to battle the Titan. Surround the Titan with them, gradually and in waves. Send a first wave of Hersirs alongside an army of ranged units and replace those who die with others.
You should be able to beat the Titan pretty quickly. Fortunately, Hersirs are cheap, you can be trained very fast, and they also generate favor faster, so this strategy should always be a winner.
The Egyptian Pantheon
Use a combination of many priests and melee infantry, along with Pharaons, to beat the Titan. Keep the Priests and the Pharaon in the second line while constantly replacing the first line of melee units. Make sure to research everything related to Priests’ and Armory’s advancements.
You can also use Son of Osiris, but make sure to keep him at a safe distance. If you choose Osiris as a God and have plenty of favor, turn two Pharaons into Sons of Osiris and use one to beat the Titan with your army of melee and Priests.
The Greek Pantheon
Recruit all the heroes you can, and build an army of archers and Hoplites and use them in waves, with heroes and melee infantry in the first line, while the archers damage the Titan from the second line.
If you’re playing with Zeus, consider using Myrmidons to deal with the Titan, as these units are robust against all other units. And that Bolt God Power should also be used in this situation.
Unfortunately, the Greek Pantheon doesn’t have many Hero units, leaving you with a combination of infantry, God Powers, and myth units to deal with the Titan. Still, the strategy above should work fairly easily.
Remember: you’ll want to beat the Titan somewhere far from your base, as your buildings and work units might be casualties you shouldn’t afford to lose.
